A HOLLYWOOD movie actor who has appeared alongside Matt Damon, Christian Slater and Jean-Claude Van Damme has been putting martial arts students through their paces.
Scott Adkins, who fought Damon’s character in Bourne Ultimatum, paid a visit to First Defence Black Belt School in Falmouth to show off his skills and pass on some tips.
The martial arts and action movie actor appeared with Christian Slater in El Gringo, and alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren in Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning.
He has also performed his kicks and tricks in Last Man Standing and Undisputed 2 and 3, among other action films.
As well as teaching seminars, Adkins laid on some jaw-dropping demonstrations for the junior and senior students from the Falmouth school, along with visiting students from clubs in Helston and Hayle.
The school’s chief instructor Mike Beard said: “The juniors were buzzing – you could really feel the energy.
“The adults were even more pumped than the juniors as many had seen Scott’s films which were rated 18.
“Scott again showed how much power he can generate and everyone was impressed. In a break he started doing back flips and kicking tricks that you only see in the movies.
“His skill and agility was amazing and he proved that you don’t need wires to perform these sort of stunts.”
Adkins said he had a “wonderful time” teaching the students in Falmouth
“It's important for me to give back to the world of martial arts so I try to continue teaching whenever my schedule permits,” he said.
Adkins’ visit follows a seminar in May given by Silvio Simac, who appeared in Unleashed with Jet Li, Morgan Freeman and the late Bob Hoskins.
Other martial artists who have visited the club include Shi Yanming, a shaolin monk who had a fight scene in the Bond movie Die Another Day, and Chloe Bruce, who is known for her work on Thor: The Dark World, Kick-Ass 2 and Wrath of the Titans.
Mr Beard added: “I feel very honoured and privileged to meet all of these talented martial artists and actors and to be able to bring them to Cornwall for my students to train with is the ultimate endorsement of what we try to do at First Defence Black Belt Schools.
“We believe our students will gain so much benefit from training with them and for those that do it, it could be a once in a lifetime event as Scott Adkins is really becoming a major action film star – we predict he will be an A-list celebrity in time.”
